Mac McClung stole the show at the NBA All-Star Weekend by winning a third straight Slam Dunk Contest and Angel Reese was among the many viewers blown away by his skills
Angel Reese could not contain her amazement as Mac McClung won an unprecedented third NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest in succession.
McClung, 26, wowed the crowd in San Francisco on Saturday with four perfect 50 scores, including a sensational dunk over a car parked on the court as he defeated the San Antonio Spurs’ Stephon Castle in the final round.
Chicago Sky star Reese was among the millions watching as McClung, a two-way point guard for the Orlando Magic, made history. He also became just the second player to win three dunk contests after former New York Knicks star Nate Robinson.
“OMG Mac. 3 peat. EASY,” Reese posted on X after McClung’s second mind-boggling dunk, jumping over a man and grabbing the ball before spinning and slamming the ball into the basket.
His third dunk was even more remarkable, rising high above a man spinning on a hoverboard to grab the ball and slam it down while also putting away a second ball held by a man on a ladder, and Reese had seen enough.
She posted: “Yeah, it’s over. OMG,” in a nod to Vince Carter, who famously said “It’s over” into a camera after his winning dunk in the 2000 contest.
McClung’s fourth attempt was astonishing, flying over 6-foot-11 Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Evan Mobley before tapping the ball against the rim and slamming it down.
“Truly, stuff like this doesn’t happen without standing on the shoulders of a lot of people,” McClung told TNT after being announced as the winner.
“I had a lot of help. People were opening gyms to fit a car in. People were allowing me to use their car. I’m just really grateful right now.”
McClung has played just five minutes for the Magic this season, spending the vast majority of his time in the G League.
His victory puts him in the conversation for the greatest dunker of all time, but he said: “I definitely don’t think that’s something for me to say.
I was extremely honored to be a part of this weekend. The biggest thing is I genuinely love this contest. I’m very honored to be here and it’s very appreciative.
“When you feel like the crowd has your back, that gives you a different level of adrenaline, maybe confidence. It was great.
It felt really good and the judges gave me some good scores, so that got me feeling good. I really do like to play off the crowd.”
